Foods To Avoid During Pregnancy

Along with the many food groups that you should include in your pregnancy diet to make sure that you and your baby get the proper nutrients, vitamins, and minerals for healthy growth and development, there are also several types of food that you should avoid during pregnancy.
Raw meats - much lie deli meats, raw meats should be avoided because they can carry bacteria that are harmful for both mother and baby.

Avoid both pasteurised and unpasteurised soft cheese usually has a printed surface or skin such as Brie, Camembert and Danish Blue. Also avoid wax coated cheese such as Gouda, Postal Salut.

There are many documented birth defects and abnormalities associated with alcohol during pregnancy. Since alcohol passes into the placenta, every time a pregnant woman drinks, her baby drinks too. There's no level of alcohol considered safe during pregnancy. And daily consumption can lead to a condition called fetal alcohol syndrome.

High quantities of caffeine can raise the risk of miscarriage. Caffeine reduces fluids from the body and it can result in dehydration and loss of calcium. One should drink a good amount of water and take fruit juices instead of caffeinated drinks. One can take milk to meet the need for calcium.

Deli meats are prepared meats common in hot dogs, turkey, beef and chicken preparations. It should only be consumed when re-heated. The bacteria in it can cause miscarriage or death of fetus inside the womb.

If you or someone in your family has a history of peanut allergies then you should avoid eating them during pregnancy. This food is safe to eat. However, if mom has an allergy to them this may affect the baby.

As good as the liver is to the body, pregnant women should not eat large quantities of it. Liver is very rich in iron and vitamin A. High level of vitamin A can be harmful to the baby. Therefore, consume less of liver while pregnant.
